COD: Modern Warfare 3 - No-Steam Shareware Version.

Play Solo and Special Ops for Free from Reloaded/Steam.

For those of you who "try-before-you-buy" and others who prefer to "get their feet wet before diving in" for the entire purchase, here is a small guide to help you transform Modern Warfare 3 into an "unofficial shareware" version.  Either you downloaded the Reloaded release, or you acquired the game from Steam through nefarious means and now you hunger for more...

If you have already downloaded and installed the 13.8 GB RELOADED release, you are ready for some "shareware" action - just skip down to the good parts and play.

If you haven't grabbed the game yet, you can legally download the 13.8 GB worth of COD:MW3 server files straight from steam... insert the files and play!

Reloaded vs Steam [HLDS] Release:

1 - Download and install:

• Reloaded's Release [check yer local torrent site.]:

Download the Reloaded release and extract the iso files. Mount or burn them.
Install from the iso files as usual into the default game directory.
Copy the content of the Crack folder on the DVD2 image into game directory.

• Steam Release via hldsupdatetool:

Download hldsupdatetool.exe setup file.
-This tool is used to download and update the latest dedicated server files.
-Run hldsupdatetool.exe and install it into a folder. eg. C:\Games
-Now go to C:\Games and double click hldsupdatetool.exe. [This will update the installed tool.]
To download the files for the COD:MW3 dedicated server with hldsupdatetool:
-Create a new text file in C:\Games with this code:

install_MW3.bat

hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game "modernwarfare3" -dir C:\Games\ModernWarfare3

pause

Save the text as install_MW3.bat and exit.
Double click on install_MW3.bat to start downloading server files.
The files will come directly from Steam and install to C:\Games\ModernWarefare3.
[This may take a while and you may need to run it more than once to get all files at 100%]
Note: In the game folder, copy the contents of the "admin" folder to "players2" folder.

2 - Updating the Game:

• Reloaded's Release:

The content of the Crack folder on DVD2 contains Update 1 files and Reloaded's game fix.
To update the game to Update 3, install the contents of this archive to your game folder.
Note: Update file does NOT include the latest  iw5sp.exe or iw5mp.exe executable files.

• Steam Release via hldsupdatetool:

Installing from hldsupdatetool will always give you the latest game files [except for the sp and mp executables].  In order to update the game files, just run the install_MW3.bat file again and allow it to update any files.

3 - Applying Game Fixes:

• Reloaded's Release:

Since the old Reloaded game fix suffered from a locked FSP, it is now obsolete.
Download and install 3DM's Proper SP fix.  Change name in 3dmgame.ini.
This new fix removes the FPS cap, saves are now in correct location, and Special Ops works.

Update: Reloaded released a Crack fix which fixes the FSP cap issue.
Reloaded's MW3 v2 Fix can be downloaded here.
Set your Nickname for Reloaded fix:
Extract this name changer [by madsheep] into your game folder and run it to change your name.

• Steam Release via hldsupdatetool:

Download and install 3DM's Proper SP fix.  Change name in 3dmgame.ini.
This new fix removes the FPS cap, saves are now in correct location, and Special Ops works.

4 - Play Special Ops and Survival Over LAN [Both Versions]:
After installing the game, updating, and applying the latest fix, you may want to play some of the highly coveted LAN matches that are now being played.  You will need .NET Framework 4.0 from Microsoft installed.

Note: To play Special Ops or Survival on LAN you will need Reloaded's v2 fix and TeknoGod's Loader:

1- Install Reloaded's MW3 v2 Fix to the game's root directory.

2- Install TeknoGod's Steamless LAN Spec Ops / Survival Loader v1.2 to the root directory also.
Start the game by launching TeknoMW3.exe.  On first run, select your nickname or use the Settings button to change nickname and/or FOV.

==Usage for host==

1. Check 'I am the host' and press 'Start Game'.

2. In game press TeknoGods Coop to host.

==Usage for client==

1. Enter IP Address of host and press 'Start Game'.

2. In game press TeknoGods Coop to join.

Set your Player ID and open ports:

• Each player needs a different PlayerID to connect and this number is tied to your stats file. In the game's main directory open the players2 folder to see your stats files.  Your player number will be the last 8 digits in the filename.  Set this before you begin playing: In the games main folder, open teknogods.ini with notepad and replace ID=\ with ID=any eight digit number.
  

  Example: ID=01001000

• You may need to enable port forwarding for port 29184 [UDP] in your router/firewall.
