UPDATED Dec 14, 2011 - added Latest update, Reloaded v2 fix, and TeknoGod's Loader.

For those of you who "try-before-you-buy" and others who prefer to "get their feet wet before diving in" for the entire purchase, here is a small guide to help you transform Modern Warfare 3 into an "unofficial shareware" version.  Either you downloaded the Reloaded release, or you acquired the game from Steam through nefarious means and now you hunger for more...

If you have already downloaded and installed the 13.8 GB RELOADED release, you are ready for some "shareware" action - just skip down to the good parts and play.
If you haven't grabbed the game yet, you can legally download the 13.8 GB worth of COD:MW3 server files straight from steam... insert the files and play!

What is Windows 8 Developer Preview?
"Microsoft has officially released the developer preview version of Windows 8 during the BUILD developer conference. The Windows Developer Preview is a pre-beta version of Windows 8 for developers, and thus is not suitable for those looking for stable or intending to run on production system, as the downloads include prerelease software that may change without notice.

The released Windows 8 Developer Preview has the build version of Windows 8.8102.0.WINMAIN_WIN8M3.110824-1030, or full build string for x86 edition of version 6.2 (Build 8102.101.x86fre.winmain_win8m3.110830-1739), or indicating it’s compiled and signed off on August 30th, 2011, and is still a build within M3 development brand. Meaning it’s pre-beta.

3 versions of downloads are currently available officially from Microsoft on MSDN. If you decides to install Windows 8 Developer Preview, do read the Windows Developer Preview guide [.pdf].

AlterIWnet Gives Dedicated Servers Back To COD: Modern Warfare 2 Players

AlterIWnet modern warfare 2 server

First they Giveth, then they Taketh Away.  That is until AlterIWnet returned the power of 'personal' dedicated servers back to the players.  AlterIWnet is an emulator project which emulates the IWNet server's for MW2. The idea is that you can play MW2 for free on AlterIWnet's servers with their modified client. Their servers also support the new DLC maps wich can be downloaded freely.
This post is not only an update to the old guide posted here, but celebrates the success of the AIW Team.
My goal is to help you update the game with the latest DLC, alterIWnet files, and to offer other miscellaneous goodies.

We will begin with complete instructions to update the Skidrow release [and Steam, if you downloaded it during the free weekend].  That will be followed by instructions to install the AIW client [AlterIWnet's Multiplayer Rip of MW2].  Downloads will be available at the bottom of this guide.  This guide will include only player/clinet installations and a future post will deal with the actual dedicated server setup.

If you had previously used the old guide , or you are installing for the first time, this guide is suitable for you.  The install section will focus on installing and updating the Skidrow release vs the MP Rip.
